What it is all about.

We are parents above everything else.

When it comes to keeping our kids engaged, 6 hours can seem like a lifetime but before we know it 6 years have flown by. Did I teach them everything I wanted to? Did I offer them experiences they will remember and develop from? Have I opened up enough horizons for them? All of these are very valid questions that many a parent has had during their kids most formative years.

With childhoods getting shorter, think extremely mature generations where teen years seem to now include 10-12 year olds if not younger, we are working against the clock. If we plan to raise healthy, independent children with wide imaginations, strong ethics and ambitions to make the world a better place we are battling a heavy resistance from an early age. Smart phones and tablets are taking over their development and only the extremely skilled can reign in the power of social media and the online world to offer enriching experiences without succumbing to its many downfalls.

It is therefore a critical time to explore the way our children play, a time where it is ever so important to maintain them interested, focused and constantly growing within a healthy framework. Play has to come in many shapes and forms. It is critical to set a time aside for outdoor play, for social play, for manual artistic play and for good old fashion playing with toys. This last crucial area of a child’s play where we have focused all our efforts in developing.

We created our reason of being and our project based on what we learnt from our own little ones

The toy industry is now officially massive! On the one hand the amount of useless, gender stereotyping, low quality, environmentally harming toys out there is huge and ever-growing, taking up much of the advertising space and much of the child’s attention. This industry focuses on the immediate gratification of owning a trendy toy, a girly or boyish toy, a toy designed to only make you want the next toy. These are usually manufactured with little thought about the effect they have on a child’s mind, and much thought on how to deplete the parent’s pocket.

On the other hand, and this is where it gets exciting, there is a rapidly growing market for very well designed toys. Toys that expand minds, toys that are environmentally friendly, crafted with quality materials and scrutinised for safety. Toys that we all want our kids to play with!

Lots of questions creep up, which toys should I invest in? What arrangement of these cool, well designed, super educational toys will broaden by baby’s mind the most? Which combination will have them playing for hours? And the more pressing question we should all ask ourselves which of these toys would I spend hours playing with alongside my child?

With a membership to our toy rotation program what we are aiming to do is provide a much larger opportunity for you to explore all of these questions and experiment with all these combinations.

  • You no longer have to choose 5 or 6 toys to invest in with fingers crossed that they will do the trick forever.

  • You no longer need to own 20 or more toys so that your child doesn’t get bored or can have a full range of experiences.

  • Think about it, long and hard, you no longer need to buy, store, throw, repeat.

Further than this and just as exciting we are building a program through which…

  • Your child will get to experiment with a far larger range of toys while also developing key notions in the process. You will be able, through this experience to teach your child invaluable concepts.

  • Your child can learn what it means to share with a larger group of people.

  • Your child will understand the value behind a circular economy from an early age.

  • Your child can learn to care about their environment.

  • Your child will learn to care for the toys they are playing with, as these belong to everyone.

No hyped up consumer mindsets, no hoarding, no clutter, no waste. A minimal lifestyle without the sacrifice.

 Yours truly,

The Play Go Round team.
